Have you noticed that the Easter holidays are different every year? Sometimes at the end of March, sometimes in April. Originally, according to Western tradition, Easter was scheduled to be held on the first Sunday after the full moon of the spring equinox every year. Since the sunshine time is longer after the vernal equinox, the light surpasses the darkness, which also represents the resurrection of Jesus, and the light defeats the darkness.
In fact, the symbol of Easter is not only the Easter egg! There are several others, let’s take a look!
1. Easter rabbit: According to the ancient European legend, the hare is a creature that never closes its eyes day and night. They can watch the surroundings and other animals in the dark. Therefore, the hare represents a bright moon in the dark night. In addition, the calculation of Easter is based on the full moon in spring, so the hare with a high reproductive rate in spring is regarded as a symbol of Easter.
2. Lamb: Europeans will eat lamb as the main meal on Easter Day. This is to commemorate Moses taking advantage of the blood of the lamb to push the Israelites out of Egypt. Moreover, the lamb is also a type of Jesus, representing that he is the holy lamb of God, through the blood he shed on the cross to cleanse people's sins and get rid of the slaves of the devil.
3. Consecrated bread: In addition to the consecration of eggs and lamb, there are other consecrated foods, such as butter, cheese, bread and so on. In many European countries, everyone has the habit of baking Easter bread, and engraving the words of Jesus Christ, the cross or the pattern of a lamb on the bread.
4. Lily: Because the lily will bloom around Easter, it is used as a symbol of Easter in modern times. The bulb of the flower grows new life after it rots in the ground, which describes the resurrection after death.
